Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society

Forest and Bird is New Zealand's largest, national environmental organisation. It is involved in a range of conservation issues. Forest and Bird's purpose is "to preserve and protect the indigenous plants and animals and natural features of New Zealand, for the benefit of the public including future generations". The Society is an independent body reliant on the generosity of its members and the public for its funding. Forest and Bird is predominantly a member-driven Society. Local branches run field trips, talks and meetings and elect committee members that look at local conservation issues. Branch members also run the Kiwi Conservation Club for children aged 5-12 years (www.kcc.org.nz). Forest and Bird employs staff who run the Society's conservation campaigns, produce the Society's magazine 'Forest and Bird', and manage the Society, its bush reserves and lodges.
