Karioitahi Beach Care Group
Aim: "To restore, preserve and conserve the foreshore and dunes to a distance of 500m either side of the surf patrol clubhouse for the benefit and enjoyment of all beach users". Since being set-up the group has planted over 5000 native dune binding plants and has largely achieved this aim. Karioitahi Beach Care are now hard at work addressing a problem that plagues many of our beaches - vehicles on beaches - both the damage to the natural environment including dune plants and shellfish, and real concerns about the safety of beach users.
Muriwai Environment Action Community Trust
The Muriwai Environmental Action Community Trust (MEACT) has been established by a group of environmental and community conscious locals.
Our aim is to encourage anyone who is interested in environmental preservation to join us in developing and implementing a wide variety of exciting projects to enhance our community’s environment for future generations to enjoy.
