Hauraki Gulf Forum Community Shellfish Monitoring Steering Group
The ARC and Department of Conservation work with territorial local authorities to support community groups and schools carry out annual shellfish surveys. These surveys provide an indicator of environmental health for the beaches of the Hauraki Gulf. The work of these agencies is co-ordinated through a steering group that reports to the Hauraki Gulf Forum. The steering group also includes representatives from Hauraki Iwi, the Ministry of Fisheries, Environment Waikato and Manukau City Council.
Hauraki Gulf Islands Branch of Forest & Bird
Local Waiheke Branch of the Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society. We manage 3 Reserves and a visitor's cottage that sleeps 8. We are very involved in weed control and Resource Management/Development issues on Waiheke. We also do a lot of revegetation work especially at the Atawhai Whenua Reserve at Matiatia.
Helensville Riverside Heritage Society
HRH is setting up a walkway along the Kaipara River in Helensville. We planted about 600 natives last Autumn and will be doing twice that many this Autumn. We are working with Rodney District Council on work done so far (other than planting): clearing wattle and privet; burning; spraying weeds and weeding.
