This Sunday we are going out to a fascinating project located in a little known gem of forest about 5 km from the centre of Auckland City, it forms an important part of our green corridor.

We will be helping the Purewa Restoration Group, a small group of locals determined to make a difference in their local community. This group has a vision of the Purewa Valley being an oasis of native bush in the heart of an ever expanding Auckland City, a place where the community can walk to, be surrounded by native bush and feel a world away from the stresses of city living.

The task for the day will be clearing a scrubby, weedy area so that we can plant and transform it later into a fantastic native habitat!

Volunteers meet at Conservation Volunteers office in Mt Eden and are then transported to the project. Gloves and all tools and are provided. Volunteers just need to bring their lunch, a raincoat and sturdy footwear.

If you are interested in getting involved please call Fiona at Conservation Volunteers New Zealand on 0800 56 76 86 or email info@conservationvolunteers.co.nz. Conservation Volunteers New Zealand runs a diverse range of conservation projects throughout New Zealand and you can check these out on their website at www.conservationvolunteers.co.nz.
